“Voir la Lumière” is a colossal epos constituting of five caustic and gripping tracks, with its main emphasis on atmospheric black metal flavoured by a blend of other musical nuances, pushing the act's musical envelope far and wide by uniting the genre's extremes fluently together. The entirety is a vibrant canvas of brutally abrasive but thoroughly cathartic aural experimentation that doesn't leave the listener cold on any imaginable metric.
Ouranos was formed in 2016 by Silmar, looking for a new way to express his black metal, doom, and experimental electronic music influences. Having been involved in several French black metal bands since 2004 (Iniquus, Synode, Wisdom of Dust), he took a more recent interest in synthesizers thanks to the band Coil, sprouting the leading idea behind Ouranos; to bring together black metal and synths that are neither an imitation of symphonic instruments nor atmospheric pads. The ties between black metal and experimental electronic music go back to Mayhem’s “Deathcrush” and its intro, composed by Conrad Schnitzler known from Tangerine Dream and Kluster. While many other bands from the second wave of black metal expressed similar interests, this particular sylistic unison has evaded the broader spotlight for one reason or the other.
Ouranos' first demo “Les visions du vide” was released in 2018, followed in 2019 by the album “Hiérophanies”, both self-produced and self-released by Silmar (Vocals, guitars, synths). “Voir la lumière” marks the first time other people got involved with Ouranos: Samuel Vaney from Lead & Sulfur Studio (mixing, mastering), Eeli Helin (artworks and layouts), Business for Satan (logo), and the label Sludgelord Records.

Sorrowful indeed. Utterly beautiful blackened doom metal with melody that draws out a cathartic release. Its works like these that have me believe what Schopenhauer said about music was true, that it speaks truth to what is at our most core. Camelus Dromedarius

Nightmarish avant-garde black metal twisting the very confines and structure of the genre. Blut Aus Nord presents a staggering second album in the series that brings together their black metal origins, pioneering filthy industrial grime, and progressive / post metal wanderings all into an insane world
Dense and swirling, dissonant and complex, enshrouded in a abyssal darkness. Spun from expansive soundscapes steeped in an aura of complete blackness, offering a view into the universe of madness Lorenzo
Winged Wheel anchor their Space Age grooves in rock, the muscle of drum and bass and guitar undergirding wild flights of fancy. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 3, 2024

Deep doom and massive fuzz, but also lots of space and time to contemplate why we might be here. Drummer is particularly cool, as is everything else. Really good for getting stoned, putting on headphones in the middle of a field, lying down, closing your eyes, and drifting off into another world. Heavy as fuck too. Jono Schneider
